A 15-Minute Home Inventory Could Save You Thousands
With wildfire season becoming an annual reality across Northern Arizona, many homeowners spend time creating defensible space, cleaning gutters, and preparing emergency evacuation plans. Those are all important steps—but there's one simple task that often gets overlooked.
Document what's inside your home.
If you've ever had to file an insurance claim after a major loss, you know that insurance companies don't simply take your word for what you owned. They require documentation to verify your belongings before paying a claim.
The good news? Creating that documentation is incredibly easy.
Take your phone and record a continuous video as you walk through your entire home. Open every closet, cabinet, drawer, pantry, and storage area. Don't forget the garage, attic, workshop, or any storage sheds. The goal is to capture as much detail as possible so there's a clear record of what was in your home.
The entire process usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, but that short investment of time could make a tremendous difference if disaster ever strikes.
While none of us wants to think about losing our home to a wildfire or another unexpected event, preparing now can save countless hours of frustration later. Instead of trying to remember every appliance, piece of furniture, tool, electronic device, or family heirloom from memory, you'll have a complete visual record available to support your insurance claim.
